Biography
Joseph Fretwell III (1915–1992) was an American costume designer. He was born on 19 September 1915 in Anderson, South Carolina, and died there on 5 November 1992.
He began working in theatre in the 1940s, with Broadway credits including costume design on The Rat Race (1949) and The Traitor (1949), and assistant roles on several other productions. From the 1960s he designed costumes for numerous New York-based television series, including 49 episodes of N.Y.P.D. (1967–1969) and Coronet Blue (1967).
His feature film work includes The French Connection (1971), Across 110th Street (1972) and The Exorcist (1973).
