Biography

Joseph Harnell was an American composer, pianist and arranger. Born Joseph Hittelman on 2 August 1924 in the Bronx, New York, he died on 14 July 2005 in Sherman Oaks, California.

He studied at the University of Miami and Trinity College of Music, and with composers including Aaron Copland, Darius Milhaud and Leonard Bernstein. Early in his career he worked as a pianist and music director for performers such as Peggy Lee, Marlene Dietrich and Robert Goulet. He later composed for television, including episodes of Cagney & Lacey (1982 series), The Incredible Hulk (1977) and the miniseries V (1983). He received three Emmy nominations for his television scores.
