Biography
Josephine Dunn, also credited as Mary Josephine Dunn, was an American stage and film actress active in the 1920s and 1930s. Born in New York City, she was educated at Holy Cross convent school and began her career in the chorus of Broadway productions including Good Morning Dearie at age 14 or 15. She appeared in nearly 20 stage shows, among them the Ziegfeld Follies, before being discovered by a talent scout and attending the Paramount Pictures School in 1926.
Her first film role came in Fascinating Youth (1926). Dunn starred in numerous silent films and was named a WAMPAS Baby Star in 1929. She transitioned to sound pictures with roles including one in Our Modern Maidens (1929) and a co-starring part in Safety in Numbers (1930). She played Mademoiselle Martel in Ernst Lubitsch's One Hour with You (1932). Dunn retired from the screen around 1938 after appearing in more than 40 films, later making occasional stage appearances.
