Biography
Juan Margallo (also credited as Juan Francisco Margallo or Francisco Margallo) was a Spanish actor, theatre director and dramaturge. Born in Cáceres in 1940, he trained at the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático (RESAD) in Madrid and began working in theatre in the early 1960s.
He was a leading figure in Spanish independent theatre, collaborating with directors including Miguel Narros and Luis Escobar, and co-founding companies such as Tábano and Uroc Teatro with his wife, actress Petra Martínez. In film he is known for his role as the fugitive in The Spirit of the Beehive (1973), Julio in Champions (2018), and Doctor Benavides in Close Your Eyes (2023). He received the Premio Nacional de Teatro in 2022 and the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes.
Margallo died in Madrid in 2025.
