Biography
Juano Hernández (also credited as Juan G. Hernández and Jauno Hernández) was a Puerto Rican stage and film actor. Born on 19 July 1896 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he died there on 17 July 1970.
He began his career in circus performance, vaudeville and radio before appearing in the chorus of the 1927 Broadway production of Show Boat. His early film roles included work in Oscar Micheaux race films such as The Girl from Chicago (1932).
Hernández gained wider recognition for dramatic parts in mainstream Hollywood films, notably as Lucas Beauchamp in Intruder in the Dust (1949), for which he received a Golden Globe nomination, and as Eddie Yeager in Kiss Me Deadly (1955). Other credits include Sergeant Rutledge (1960), The Pawnbroker (1965) and They Call Me Mister Tibbs! (1970).
