Biography

Jung Byung-gil is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. He trained at the Seoul Action School and graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in film. His directorial debut was the 2008 documentary Action Boys, about stuntmen.

He gained wider recognition with Confession of Murder (2012), for which he won awards including Best Screenplay at the Baeksang Arts Awards. International attention followed with the action thriller The Villainess (2017), which he directed, wrote and produced; it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. His later film Carter (2022) continued his work in action cinema.
