Biography

Jürgen Knieper is a German film score composer. Born on 14 March 1941 in Karlsruhe, he studied at Berlin's State High School of Music.

He began a long collaboration with director Wim Wenders on The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick (1972). For Wenders' The Wrong Move (1975) he received the German Film Award for Best Music. His other scores for the director include The American Friend (1977), Christiane F. (1981), The State of Things (1982) and Wings of Desire (1987). Knieper was nominated for the European Film Award for Best Composer for December Bride (1990). His further credits include River's Edge (1986) and Lisbon Story (1994).
