Justin Benson, working with Aaron Moorhead, makes science fiction and horror feel close to ordinary life. We rate that grounded approach, though Daredevil: Born Again shows that convincing physical danger cannot compensate for every familiar plot.

The fights in Daredevil: Born Again (2025) hurt to watch. We winced at the violence because the blows retain a sense of what a body can suffer. That concern with physical consequences connects Justin Benson's television work to the grounded science fiction and horror he makes with Aaron Moorhead. It is a capable crime series, with more force in its action than invention in its plotting.
Benson's first feature as writer and co-director was Resolution (2012), made with Moorhead. Spring (2014) made room for romance within body horror, while The Endless (2017) returned to the earlier film's universe through a cult story. Synchronic (2019) continued those connections between films. By Something in the Dirt (2022), shot in Benson's flat, comedy had become more prominent. Their films allow these different kinds of storytelling to coexist without requiring every scene to frighten us.
Moorhead's work as co-director, cinematographer and editor makes it unhelpful to discuss their visual habits as Benson's alone. Their mobile camera wanders away from characters to reveal information, encouraging us to inspect the surroundings as closely as the people. That is a useful way to make an ordinary setting feel unsafe without immediately explaining what is wrong. Their more complicated narratives ask for a different sort of patience, and will not suit every evening.
The move into television gives us a more qualified recommendation in Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio provide much of the reason to keep watching. Benson and Moorhead served as lead directors, and the fights are a persuasive fit for their interest in making physical danger credible. The uneven pacing is harder to excuse: there is a limit to how much strong performances can do when a series cannot maintain its momentum. Choose it for the actors and the action, rather than in the hope that Benson will make familiar crime plotting feel unfamiliar.

Justin Benson is an American director, writer, producer and actor. He frequently collaborates with filmmaking partner Aaron Moorhead, with Benson writing and Moorhead often serving as cinematographer. Their early work includes the horror film Resolution (2012), the romantic body horror Spring (2014), the science-fiction horror The Endless (2017) and Synchronic (2019).
Benson and Moorhead have directed episodes of several Marvel Cinematic Universe series, including Moon Knight (2022) and Loki (2023, for which they were lead directors on the second season). They were hired as lead directors and executive producers on Daredevil: Born Again (2025) following a creative overhaul, directing multiple episodes across its first two seasons. In 2017 they co-founded the production company Rustic Films with David Lawson Jr.
