Biography

K. Raghavendra Rao is an Indian film director, producer, screenwriter and choreographer known primarily for his work in Telugu cinema. Born Kovelamudi Raghavendra Rao on 23 May 1942 in Kolavennu, Krishna district, he is the son of director K. S. Prakash Rao. He began directing in the mid-1970s and has helmed more than a hundred feature films across genres including romantic dramas, fantasies and devotional biographies.

Rao has also produced and presented films, including serving as a producer on Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017). Among his notable directorial works are Annamayya (1997), Sri Ramadasu (2006) and Om Namo Venkatesaya (2017). He has received multiple Nandi Awards, Filmfare Awards South and other honours for direction and lifetime contribution. His son Prakash Kovelamudi is a filmmaker and his son-in-law is producer Shobu Yarlagadda.
