Biography
Karan Johar is an Indian film director, producer, screenwriter and former costume designer, primarily associated with Hindi cinema. Born in Mumbai on 25 May 1972, he is the son of producer Yash Johar. He began his career in the mid-1990s as an assistant director and costume designer on Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), for which he also received an acting credit as Raj's friend Rocky.
Johar made his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Subsequent films include Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006) and My Name Is Khan (2010). He produces films through Dharma Productions and has credits on titles such as Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), Dear Zindagi (2016) and KILL (2024). He is also credited as a producer on the forthcoming Udta Teer (2026).
