Biography
Karla Sofía Gascón is a Spanish actress. Born Juan Carlos Gascón on 31 March 1972 in Alcobendas, Spain, she began her acting career in Spanish television series in the 1990s and later worked in Mexican telenovelas and films.
She appeared in We Are the Nobles (2013) as Peter Pintado and in the series El Señor de los Cielos. In 2024, she played the title role in Emilia Pérez, portraying both Manitas and Emilia Pérez. She shared the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress with her co-stars and won the European Film Award for Best Actress. She was the first openly transgender actress to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
