Biography
Kathryn Bostic is a composer, songwriter, pianist and vocalist whose work spans film, television, theatre and concert music. She composed the score for the 2019 feature film Clemency, directed by Chinonye Chukwu, and also wrote and performed the song 'Slow Train' for the film; she served as an executive producer on the project.
Bostic scored the documentaries Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am (2019) and Amy Tan: Unintended Memoir (2021), as well as feature films including Dear White People (2014) and Holiday Rush (2019). Her theatre credits include scores for several August Wilson plays, and she has received commissions from orchestras such as the Pittsburgh Symphony. In 2016 she became the first African American woman admitted to the music branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She has received Sundance fellowships, a Hollywood Music in Media Award and an African American Film Critics Association award for best music, and has been nominated for Primetime Emmys.
