Biography
Katy Jurado was a Mexican actress. Born María Cristina Estela Marcela Jurado García on 16 January 1924, she began her career in Mexican cinema in the early 1940s and appeared in numerous films there before moving into Hollywood productions.
She is known for her role as Helen Ramírez in High Noon (1952), for which she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. Other notable credits include Broken Lance (1954), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, One-Eyed Jacks (1961), Barabbas (1961) and Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973). She also appeared in Mexican films such as We the Poor (1948).
Jurado worked with directors including Fred Zinnemann, Sam Peckinpah and John Huston, and actors including Gary Cooper, Spencer Tracy and Marlon Brando. She won three Ariel Awards for her work in Mexican cinema.
