Biography

Kay Cannon is an American screenwriter, producer and director. She trained in sketch and improv comedy at The Second City, ImprovOlympic and ComedySportz in Chicago. While performing there, she met Tina Fey and was hired as a writer on the NBC series 30 Rock (2007–2012), where she rose to supervising producer.

Cannon wrote the screenplays for the Pitch Perfect film series (2012–2017). She made her directorial debut with Blockers (2018) and later directed and co-wrote Cinderella (2021). She also wrote for and produced New Girl (2012–2014) and created the Netflix series Girlboss (2017). She has received three Writers Guild of America Awards for her work on 30 Rock, along with a Peabody Award and Emmy nominations.
