Biography
Kazunori Itō (also credited as Kazunori Ito) is a Japanese anime screenwriter and artist. Born on 24 December 1954 in Yamagata Prefecture, he began working in animation in the late 1970s and wrote screenplays for series including Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku.
Itō is a founding member of the artist group Headgear, alongside Masami Yuki, Yutaka Izubuchi, Akemi Takada and Mamoru Oshii. The group created the Mobile Police Patlabor franchise, for which he wrote the screenplays of the 1989 and 1993 films and related series. He also wrote the screenplay for the 1995 film Ghost in the Shell.
His other credits include screenplays for the .hack franchise, the Gamera trilogy directed by Shusuke Kaneko (Gamera: Guardian of the Universe in 1995, Gamera 2: Attack of Legion in 1996 and Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris in 1999), and Avalon (2001). He has received awards for his work on Patlabor 2, Ghost in the Shell and Gamera: Guardian of the Universe.
