Biography

Kazuya Takao is a Japanese cinematographer and director of photography, primarily known for his work in anime at Kyoto Animation. He began his career at the studio in 2004, contributing photography and scanning work on series such as Air, before advancing to director of photography roles.

Takao has served as director of photography on numerous Kyoto Animation productions, including Lucky Star (2007), Nichijou: My Ordinary Life (2011), the Sound! Euphonium television series (2015–2024) and its films, A Silent Voice: The Movie (2016), Liz and the Blue Bird (2018), and entries in the Free! franchise. He has frequently collaborated with director Naoko Yamada.
