Biography
Kei Satō (佐藤 慶) was a Japanese character actor and narrator. Born Keinosuke Satō on 21 December 1928 in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, he died on 2 May 2010 in Tokyo.
He appeared in numerous films of the Japanese New Wave and beyond, collaborating frequently with director Nagisa Ōshima and with Kaneto Shindō on Onibaba (1964) and Kuroneko (1968). Among his other notable roles were Masakatsu Fukushima in Harakiri (1962), a ghost samurai in Kwaidan (1965), Kamo Serizawa in The Sword of Doom (1966), and Chief Editor Gondo in The Return of Godzilla (1984). He received the Kinema Junpo best actor award for The Ceremony (1971) and Nihon no akuryō (1970). Satō also narrated many documentaries for television and film.
