Biography
Kelly Candaele is a Canadian writer, filmmaker and politician. He wrote the story for the 1992 feature film A League of Their Own, directed by Penny Marshall and starring Tom Hanks and Geena Davis. The film was based on the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, in which his mother Helen Callaghan played.
Candaele produced and co-directed a 1987 documentary also titled A League of Their Own, which won an Emmy. He received story credit on the 2022 television series adaptation. Born in Vancouver, he has written extensively for the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times and The Nation, and has worked as a union organiser and elected official in Los Angeles.
