Biography
Ken Balcomb (1940–2022) was an American cetologist and marine biologist. He founded the Center for Whale Research in 1984 and conducted long-term studies of the Southern Resident orca population in the Pacific Northwest, beginning in 1976.
Balcomb appeared as himself in the documentary Blackfish (2013). He contributed to other films and television programmes on whales and marine life, including The Whale (2011) and episodes of The Nature of Things.
He was born in Clovis, New Mexico, and died near the Elwha River, Washington.
