Biography
Kent L. Wakeford (23 January 1928 – 10 October 2020) was an American cinematographer. Born in Los Angeles, he apprenticed to a fashion photographer while at school, worked as a cameraman for the Douglas Aircraft Company and served two years as a motion-picture cameraman in the US Army Signal Corps. He later became a freelance documentary and advertising cameraman and co-founded the commercial production company Wakeford/Orloff Productions.
Wakeford’s first major feature credit was as director of photography on Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets (1973). He also shot Scorsese’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974) and worked on films including Black Belt Jones (1974), China O’Brien (1990) and Wedding Bell Blues (1996), as well as episodes of the television series L.A. Law (1986–1988).
