Biography
Khyana el Bitar is a German screenwriter. Born in 1964 in Hanover, she studied society and economic communication at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin, completed acting training in Berlin, Karlsruhe and New York, and studied directing and screenwriting at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin from 1993.
She has written for numerous German television series and films, including three episodes of Tatort (2007–2017), episodes of Wilsberg, Der Kriminalist and Alles Klara, and twelve episodes of Babylon Berlin (season 4, 2022, co-written with Bettine von Borries). Earlier credits include the feature Die Könige der Nutzholzgewinnung (2006, with Matthias Keilich) and Mitfahrer (2004). She has also acted, appearing in Paradiso – Sieben Tage mit sieben Frauen (2000).
El Bitar received the Grimme-Preis in 2017 for Dead Man Working and shared in the Crime Series of the Year award at the Deutsches Fernsehkrimifestival in 2023 for Babylon Berlin season 4. She lives in Berlin.
