Biography
Kia Corthron is an American playwright, television writer and novelist. She was born on 13 May 1961 in Cumberland, Maryland, and studied at the University of Maryland, College Park, and Columbia University, where she received an MFA in 1992.
Corthron has written numerous plays produced in New York and regionally across the United States and internationally. Her television credits include an episode of The Jury (2004) and the The Wire episode "Know Your Place" (2006), for which she shared a Writers Guild of America Award for Outstanding Drama Series and an Edgar Award.
Her novels include The Castle Cross the Magnet Carter (2016), which won the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize, and Moon and the Mars (2021). In 2014 she received the Windham–Campbell Literature Prize for Drama.
