Biography
Kimberly Elise is an American actress. She was born Kimberly Elise Trammel on 17 April 1967 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She earned a BA in Mass Communications from the University of Minnesota and attended the American Film Institute as a Directing Fellow.
Elise made her feature film debut in Set It Off (1996) and received critical acclaim for her performance in Beloved (1998). She has appeared in films including John Q (2002), The Manchurian Candidate (2004), The Great Debaters (2007), Dope (2015), Almost Christmas (2016), Death Wish (2018) and Ad Astra (2019), as well as the television series Close to Home (2005–07) and Hit the Floor (2013–2016). She is a four-time NAACP Image Award winner and received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Woman Thou Art Loosed (2004).
