Biography
Kirsten Johnson is an American documentary filmmaker and cinematographer. Born in 1965 in Seattle, she graduated from Brown University in 1987 with a BA in Fine Arts and Literature. She began her career working on fiction and documentary projects in West Africa before studying at the FEMIS film school in Paris.
Johnson has more than 40 credits as a cinematographer on feature documentaries, including Citizenfour (2014), The Oath (2010), Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004) and The Invisible War (2012). She directed Cameraperson (2016), a collage of footage from her career that premiered at Sundance, and Dick Johnson Is Dead (2020). She is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers.
