Biography
Kjell Nilsson was a Swedish actor and Olympic-class weightlifter. Born in Gothenburg in 1949, he moved to Australia in 1980 to train Swedish athletes for the Moscow Olympics. There he met actress Kate Ferguson, whom he married; she encouraged him to seek work in the Australian film industry.
Nilsson is best known for his role as the antagonist Lord Humungus in Mad Max 2 (1981). He also appeared as a pirate in The Pirate Movie (1982) and in other 1980s productions including The Edge of Power (1987). He returned to acting for Howlin' Refrain (2023).
Nilsson died in Queensland, Australia, in 2026.
