Biography
Kurt Kasznar was an Austrian-American actor born Kurt Servischer on 13 August 1913 in Vienna. He appeared on Broadway in productions including Waiting for Godot, The Sound of Music (for which he received a Tony Award nomination as Max Detweiler), Barefoot in the Park and Six Characters in Search of an Author. His first major Broadway role was in The Happy Time, which he reprised in the 1952 film version and for which he earned a Golden Globe nomination.
Kasznar appeared in more than 80 films and television productions. His film credits include Lili (1953), Kiss Me Kate (1953), The Last Time I Saw Paris (1954), A Farewell to Arms (1957), 55 Days at Peking (1963) and Casino Royale (1967), in which he played Smernov. On television he had a regular role as Alexander B. Fitzhugh in Land of the Giants (1968–1970) and guest appearances in series such as Wonder Woman. He died on 6 August 1979 in Santa Monica, California.
