Biography
Lamont Johnson (born Ernest Lamont Johnson Jr.) was an American actor and director. He directed episodes of numerous television series in the 1950s and 1960s, including The Twilight Zone (1959), Have Gun – Will Travel (1957) and The Rifleman (1958). He later directed feature films such as The Last American Hero (1973) and Lipstick (1976), and television films and miniseries including My Sweet Charlie (1970), That Certain Summer (1972), Wallenberg: A Hero's Story (1985) and Lincoln (1988).
Johnson began his career as a radio actor in the early 1950s, playing roles including Tarzan and Archie Goodwin in The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe. He transitioned to acting and then directing in television and theatre, also staging opera productions. He received eleven Emmy Award nominations, winning twice for directing Wallenberg: A Hero's Story and Lincoln, and won four Directors Guild of America Awards for television work.
