Biography

Larry Linville was an American actor. Born Lawrence Lavon Linville on 29 September 1939 in Ojai, California, he died on 10 April 2000 in New York City.

He studied aeronautical engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder before training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Linville began his career on stage and appeared in guest roles on series including Mannix before being cast as Major Frank Burns on the television series MASH* (1972). He played the character for the first five seasons, appearing in 120 episodes, and left the series in 1977 after declining to renew his contract.

Linville continued to work in television and film, with later credits including Earth Girls Are Easy (1988) and guest appearances on series such as Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Airwolf and Murder, She Wrote.
