Biography
Lau Shun (also credited as Liu Xun or Lau Suen) was a Chinese actor born on 10 April 1939 in Beijing. He trained in Peking opera from childhood and later taught the form, including at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he served as coordinator and artistic director of Chinese opera courses. He relocated to Hong Kong in the 1980s.
He appeared in dozens of Hong Kong films from the 1980s onwards, often in supporting roles as officials, monks or eunuchs. His credits include Naval Commander Lau in Once Upon a Time in China (1991), Wong Kai-Ying in Once Upon a Time in China III (1993), roles in Tai-Chi Master (1993), New Dragon Gate Inn (1992), A Chinese Ghost Story III (1991) and Master Rui in The Grandmaster (2013). He also worked as Peking opera consultant on Peking Opera Blues (1986). Lau Shun died on 29 May 2026.
