Biography
Tsui Hark is a Hong Kong film director, producer and screenwriter. Born in Saigon, Vietnam, he studied film at the University of Texas at Austin before returning to Hong Kong in 1977, where he began working in television and directed his debut feature, The Butterfly Murders (1979).
He co-founded the production company Film Workshop in 1984. Tsui directed and produced Peking Opera Blues (1986) and directed, wrote and produced Once Upon a Time in China (1991). He is a leading figure of the Hong Kong New Wave and has worked extensively as a producer on other films including A Chinese Ghost Story (1987).
