Biography
Huang Jianxin (also credited as 黄建新, Jianxin Huang and Huang Jian-Xin) is a Chinese film director, producer and screenwriter. He was born on 14 June 1954 in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.
He joined the army at the age of 16 and studied at Northwest University from 1975. After working at Xi'an Film Studio as an editor, script supervisor and assistant director, he trained at the Beijing Film Academy in 1983 and began directing. He is often associated with the fifth generation of Chinese filmmakers.
Huang is known for early satirical films set in contemporary urban China and later for directing or co-directing large-scale historical and patriotic productions, including The Founding of a Republic (2009), Beginning of the Great Revival (2011), The Battle at Lake Changjin (2021, co-director and screenplay) and The Battle at Lake Changjin II: Water Gate Bridge (2022, co-director and writer). He produced the anthology film My People, My Country (2019).
