Biography
Laurent Perez del Mar is a French film composer, also credited as Laurent Perez. Born in Nice in 1974, he studied music at the Conservatoire in Nice and Paris, majoring in composition, and also trained in medicine.
He began his career scoring shorts, commercials and television before writing his first feature score for the 2007 animated film Fear(s) of the Dark. Perez del Mar is best known for his work on the animated feature The Red Turtle (2016), for which he received the IFMCA Award for Best Original Score for an Animated Feature. Other notable scores include Zarafa (2012), Wolfy the Incredible Secret (2013), I Kill Giants (2017), The Mystery of Henri Pick (2019) and My Son (2021).
In 2017 he became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Académie des César, and was appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
