Biography
Laurie Anderson, also credited as Laura Phillips Anderson, is an American performance artist, composer, musician and filmmaker. Born on 5 June 1947 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, she studied at Barnard College and Columbia University before beginning performance art projects in New York in the 1970s.
She is known for multimedia works including the performance United States I–IV and the 1986 concert film Home of the Brave, which she directed and starred in. Anderson composed the score for Jonathan Demme’s Something Wild (1986) with John Cale. Her film credits include narration, direction and writing on Heart of a Dog (2015) and a singing voice role in The Rugrats Movie (1998). She has also appeared as herself in documentaries such as Feminists: What Were They Thinking? (2018).
Anderson was married to musician Lou Reed from 2008 until his death in 2013.
