Biography
Laverne Cox is an American actor. Born on 29 May 1972 in Mobile, Alabama, Cox trained in dance at the Alabama School of Fine Arts and Marymount Manhattan College.
Cox rose to prominence playing Sophia Burset in the series Orange Is the New Black (2013–2019). She appeared as Gail in the film Promising Young Woman (2020) and has had roles in Charlie's Angels (2019), The Blacklist (2013) and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999).
In 2014 Cox became the first transgender person nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in an acting category. She won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2015 as executive producer of Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word.
