Biography
Lawrence Francis O'Donnell Jr. is an American television host, political commentator, writer, producer and actor. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on 7 November 1951, he graduated from Harvard University. Before entering television he worked in politics as senior advisor to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan and as chief of staff to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and the Senate Finance Committee.
O'Donnell was a writer and producer on the NBC series The West Wing (1999–2006), contributing to sixteen episodes and serving in various production roles; he also appeared as Dr Bartlet. He created and executive produced the NBC series Mister Sterling (2003). Since 2010 he has hosted the weeknight opinion and news programme The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC (later MS NOW). He won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series for The West Wing in 2001.
