Biography
Lawrence Wright is an American author, screenwriter, playwright and staff writer for The New Yorker. Born in Oklahoma City in 1947, he graduated from Tulane University and the American University in Cairo. He began his career in journalism in 1971 and joined The New Yorker in 1992.
Wright is best known for his 2006 book The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11, which won the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction. He co-wrote the screenplay for the 1998 film The Siege and authored Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief (2013). His 1997 book Twins explored studies of separated siblings and led to his contribution to the 2018 documentary Three Identical Strangers.
