Biography
Leo de Laforgue (9 February 1902 – 27 May 1980) was a German writer, director and cinematographer. After studies in engineering, psychology and art history, and work as a stage designer for Max Reinhardt and as an assistant at UFA, he entered film in the 1930s.
He was part of the camera team on Leni Riefenstahl’s Olympia (1938). Post-war he directed and wrote numerous documentaries, notably Symphonie einer Weltstadt (1950), Kanaillen (1958) and Gigant Berlin (1964), often focusing on Berlin. He also supplied the manuscript for Helmut Käutner’s Unter den Brücken (1945).
