Biography
Leonard Harris was an American actor, critic and author. Born in the Bronx, New York City, he began his career in journalism, writing obituaries and book reviews for the Hartford Courant from 1958, before becoming a culture critic at WCBS-TV in New York from 1966 to 1974.
Harris appeared in two films. He played Senator Charles Palantine in Taxi Driver (1976), directed by Martin Scorsese, who cast him through connections in the New York drama scene. His final screen role was as the mayor in Hero at Large (1980). He also wrote three novels.
Harris died in Hartford, Connecticut, on 28 August 2011.
