Biography
Leonard Stone (né Steinbock) was an American character actor. He appeared in supporting roles in more than 120 television shows and 35 films between 1956 and 2006.
Born in Salem, Oregon, on 3 November 1923, Stone served in the US Navy during the Second World War and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He began his career on stage, appearing in the Broadway productions Look Homeward, Angel (1957) and Redhead (1959), for which he won a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.
His film credits include Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) as Mr. Beauregarde and Soylent Green (1973) as Charles. He also had guest roles in series such as MASH (1972), Mission: Impossible (1966), The Outer Limits (1963) and Night Court* (1984). Stone died in Encinitas, California, on 2 November 2011.
