Biography
Leslee Udwin is a British filmmaker, producer, director and former actress. Born in 1957 in Savyon, Israel, she began her career as an actress in South Africa and the United Kingdom before moving into production. In 1989 she founded Assassin Films.
She produced the feature films East Is East (1999) and its sequel West Is West (2010). East Is East won the BAFTA Alexander Korda Award for Best British Film. Udwin also directed, produced and wrote the documentary India's Daughter (2015).
Following India's Daughter, she founded the education charity Think Equal, of which she is executive chair, and has received awards including the Anna Lindh Human Rights Prize.
