Biography
Lesser Samuels (1894–1980) was an American screenwriter and occasional producer. He graduated with a degree in metallurgy from Carnegie Tech and worked in the steel industry before entering the film business. His first scripts were written in London for British films; he was signed by MGM in 1939.
Samuels received Academy Award nominations for Best Original Screenplay for No Way Out (1950) and Ace in the Hole (1951). Other credits include Strange Cargo (1940), The Silver Chalice (1954, on which he also served as associate producer) and Great Day in the Morning (1956). From 1958 he was based in New York and wrote for the theatre, co-authoring the book for the 1960 musical Greenwillow.
