Biography
Lewis J. Rachmil (3 July 1908 – 19 February 1984) was an American film producer and art director. Born in New York City, he attended New York University and the Yale School of Fine Arts before entering the film industry in the 1930s.
He worked as an art director on numerous films and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Art Direction for Our Town (1940). Rachmil later became a producer, handling Hopalong Cassidy Westerns in the 1940s and serving in executive roles at studios including Paramount, RKO, Columbia, United Artists, Mirisch-United Artists and ABC Pictures, where he oversaw production of Cabaret (1972). His producing credits include Gidget (1959), Human Desire (1954), The Violent Men (1955), Kings of the Sun (1963), Inspector Clouseau (1968) and Footloose (1984).
Rachmil died of a heart ailment at his home in Beverly Hills, California, aged 75.
