Biography
Liam O'Brien was an American screenwriter and television producer. Born in New York City on 7 March 1913, he was educated at Fordham University and Manhattan College. He began his career writing plays and screenplays after earlier work as a poet, cartoonist and labour organiser.
O'Brien wrote or co-wrote screenplays for films including Young at Heart (1954), Trapeze (1956) and The Devil at 4 O'Clock (1961). His television writing credits include episodes of Ironside and Police Story. He also served as a producer on series such as Police Story and Miami Vice (1984).
His younger brother was the actor Edmond O'Brien. O'Brien received an Academy Award nomination for the story of Here Comes the Groom (1951) and shared an Emmy Award for Police Story.
