Biography
Lidia Alfonsi, also credited as Lydia Alfonsi, was an Italian actress born in Parma on 28 April 1928. She began in amateur theatre, winning a national competition in Pesaro that led to her professional debut in 1946 with director Anton Giulio Bragaglia. She performed leading roles in classical drama, including Medea, Phaedra and Electra, and worked with companies such as the Piccolo Teatro di Milano.
Alfonsi became widely known for her performances in RAI television dramas of the 1960s, notably in adaptations including La Pisana, Mastro Don Gesualdo, Luisa Sanfelice and Il segreto di Luca. On screen she appeared in films such as Hercules (1958), Black Sabbath (1963) and her final role as Mrs. Guicciardini in Life Is Beautiful (1997). She was named a Grand Officer of the Italian Republic and retired from screen acting in 1997. She died in Parma on 21 September 2022.
