Biography
Lil Dagover was a German actress whose career spanned from 1913 to 1979. Born Marie Antonia Siegelinde Martha Seubert on 30 September 1887 in Madiun, Java, in the Dutch East Indies, she made her screen debut in Fritz Lang's Harakiri (1919).
She achieved international recognition for her role as Jane in Robert Wiene's expressionist film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920). Dagover appeared in other notable silent films including Destiny (1921) and Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler (1922). She continued working in German cinema through the sound era and into the 1970s, with later credits including Scene of the Crime (1970).
Dagover received the Bundesfilmpreis in 1962 and the Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1967. She died in Munich on 23 January 1980.
