Biography
Lila Kedrova was a Russian-born French actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Madame Hortense in the film Zorba the Greek (1964). She later reprised the role in the Broadway musical adaptation, for which she received the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 1984.
Kedrova began her career in French theatre and film, making her screen debut in Ultimatum (1938). After appearing in several French productions, including Razzia (1955) and Main Street (1956), she gained international recognition with Zorba the Greek. Her other film roles include Countess Kuchinska in Torn Curtain (1966) and appearances in The Tenant (1976) and Some Girls (1988).
She died on 16 February 2000 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.
