Biography

Lois Nettleton was an American actress who appeared in film, stage, radio and television from 1949 until her death. She trained at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and the Actors Studio in New York, making her Broadway debut in 1949. She was also credited early in her career as Lydia Scott.

Nettleton received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won two Daytime Emmy Awards. Her television credits include the role of Jean in the 1986 episode "Isn't It Romantic?" of The Golden Girls, as well as appearances in The Twilight Zone (1959), Murder, She Wrote (1984), Seinfeld (1994) and Spider-Man (1994). She had a recurring role in In the Heat of the Night (1988–1989) and appeared on stage in productions including A Streetcar Named Desire (1973). She was married to writer and radio personality Jean Shepherd from 1960 to 1967.
