Biography
Lothar Holler is a German production designer and set decorator. Born in 1948 in Berlin, he studied scene and costume design at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. From the mid-1970s he worked as a production designer for DEFA and Deutscher Fernsehfunk before becoming freelance in 1992, working across film, television, theatre and opera.
Holler is known for his work on films set in the German Democratic Republic, including Sonnenallee (1999), Good Bye, Lenin! (2003) and NVA (2005). He received the Deutscher Filmpreis (Film Award in Gold) for production design on Sonnenallee in 2000 and Good Bye, Lenin! in 2003, and a further nomination for Hände weg von Mississippi (2007). From 2004 he was professor of scenography at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen Konrad Wolf in Potsdam.
