Biography
Lou Adler is an American record and film producer. Born Lester Louis Adler on 13 December 1933 in Chicago, Illinois, he founded Dunhill Records in 1964 and later Ode Records. He produced albums and developed artists including The Mamas & the Papas and Carole King, whose Tapestry (1971) won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1972. He co-produced the Monterey International Pop Festival in 1967 and the resulting film Monterey Pop (1968).
Adler was executive producer of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). He directed and produced Up in Smoke (1978), starring Cheech & Chong. Other film credits include producing Brewster McCloud (1970) and executive producing Shock Treatment (1981) and American Me (1992).
Adler received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006 for his work in music and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
