Biography
Louise Ironside is a Scottish screenwriter and former actress. Born in Edinburgh, she studied drama at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland). Her acting career began in the 1990s in television and theatre.
She served as Writer in Residence at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh in 2000 and wrote for BBC Radio before moving into screenwriting. She wrote 22 episodes of the BBC Scotland drama River City (2004–2014) and has contributed to series including Waterloo Road (2009–2010), Lip Service (2012), Law & Order: UK (2014), The Tunnel (2016–2017), Call the Midwife (2017–2019), Shetland (2018), The Split (2018), Deep Water (2018), Grantchester (2021–2022) and Marie Antoinette (2022–2025), on which she was lead writer for series 2.
In 2016 she won the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain award for Best Long Running TV Series for an episode of River City. She was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA for her work on Lip Service.
